COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

The purpose of this course is to help students improve their written and spoken English.  Much of the emphasis will be on producing and correcting written academic English as well as speaking practice.

 

 

ONLY ENGLISH WILL BE SPOKEN IN THE CLASSROOM

Grades will be given based on the following % scale:

 

An important part of class participation is speaking only English in the classroom.

 

Student will maintain a journal with daily entries and specific assignments.

 

 

 

 

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

 

a.      Behavior

 

Cell phones, IPods and other electronic equipment are not allowed in the classroom.  Electronic dictionaries can be used during class but are not allowed during tests and quizzes.

 

 

The student is expected to be in his/her seat, with the needed supplies such as books, paper, pen, etc., when the bell rings.

 

 

The student is responsible for leaving the desk and the area around it clean.

 

The student will remain seated/ in the classroom until dismissed by the teacher.

 

The students are expected to be respectful to the teacher and to one another.  We will listen to one another and speak in turn.  Disruptive behavior is unacceptable and continued disruptive behavior will be punished with detention.

 

No eating, drinking, gum chewing, etc. is allowed in the classroom.  Students are allowed to drink water in the classroom. 

 

b.      School Work

 

The student is expected to complete his/her own work.  Anyone caught cheating will receive a zero ‘0’ for that assignment.  This includes both tests and homework assignments.

 

Plagiarism, copying other people work including from the internet, will result in a ‘0’ for the assignment.

 

All homework and other assignments will be handed in on time.  Late assignments will receive a lower grade.  Exceptions will be made for excused absences if the work in turned in on the student’s first day back at school.  Make up tests will be given only after an excused absence.
