Text Box: Because seminar week was such a success last year, BIA staff decided to offer it again. This year the six unique activities provided are: Horseback Riding, an Ocean Challenge to Florida, Cooking, Sports, Filmmaking and Theater. Mr. and Mrs. Ellenson run the New Hope Farms in Deer Park, New York. They invited the BIA students to go horseback riding for a week and learn to care for horses. Ocean Challenge in Florida was another special activity offered this year. It’s provided by Greg Odlin from Maine. He invited BIA students to join a group he was Text Box: already taking from Maine. Cooking was offered by Mrs.Van Geldern and intended for six students. It was at her house and she drove the students back and forth. They were cooking and baking a variety of treats. The Theater Group practiced for their upcoming show called The Apostrophe’s. Dr. Spurgin, High Spurgin, Mike Zambon and Peter Giampoli ran the sports activities. The Sports Medley included sports such as golf, tennis, football, soccer, basketball, swimming, ping-pong, racquetball, pool, badminton, volleyball, softball, and Text Box: hiking. Mr. Sohn, with the help of Bow Jones, a filmmaking student from SUNY Purchase and John Wason, a photographer, offered the filmmaking class. This class was responsible for producing a promotional video as a project.

Text Box: The school is scheduled to go to Camp Sunrise and Six Flags to celebrate the conclusion of the school year. Also, the graduating students are planning a senior canoeing trip in Maine.

It was so cold that no one wanted to go outside! “It was (very) cold … with raining sleet …and… our stands were blowing away and … there was no one outside … thank God Liz brought me a Steamer”, remarked Jason Spicciani, a senior who was out there for his class. Sadly, despite their valiant efforts, at the close of day the seniors left their flowers negative $200 to show for their courageous struggle.

The proceeds will help support the end of the year trip, an awesome day at Six Flags and a trip to Camp Sunrise! It had been an extremely mild winter, and hopes were high that their excursion would yield big results. Little did they know, fate had another thing in store for them.
