WAIT Program at Thomas Hooker Middle School
By: Lucas Tecun
The WAIT team is now leading a mentoring program
at Thomas hooker which is a Bridgeport, CT public middle school.
Sarah Peterson, Elizabeth Hempowicz Geoff Dilg
and Lucas Tecun are the four core student leaders of the mentoring
program.
The intent of this program was to educate kids
who truly wanted to be involved in WAIT after seeing our performance.

The kids in the mentoring program were hand
chosen by the schools guidance counselor Mr. Smuckler.
The program entails a six week workshop which
meets twice a week (Mondays and Fridays).
The intent of the WAIT mentoring program is to
educate the serious select few of 6th through 8th graders of Thomas hooker on
the serious subject of HIV/AIDS.
Along with teaching them on the subject of
HIV/AIDS, WAIT also has the goal of training them in the WAIT performance and
having them perform for their school!
Areas such as the following must be
individually taught to each participant
Everything from songs to dances, breakdancing
to music, and even a skit.
WAIT not only tries to educate the kids
through the mentoring program but also tries to extend their bonds and form
lasting and meaningful relationships, where the WAIT members become elder
brothers and sisters to the younger school children.
Through out the 6 week period of mentoring
both the WAIT team members and Thomas hooker students alike have gained a
lot.
